- D asked: I find myself in a rather difficult situation as far as the ethics of a particular situation that has arisen and I am hoping you will be able to offer some advice. I found your details on the inter net, please excuse my forwardnessa .I completely understand should your organisation not wish to be involved, and any advice from yourselves will be treated by me and the representatives with the utmost confidence. It is concerning Para Codes of professional ethics American Board of Hypnotherapy ABH plus others . Sexual activity shall not occur between a Member/ Therapist and a Client/ Patient during the complete course of therapy from the Member/ Therapist and for a period of at least two years after the professional relationship has ended. Where to starta a .I have been approached by a body of people who have voiced their concerned over a disturbing breach of what is believe to be contrary to professional conduct and ethics of practicing therapists . As one person said this is professional molestation bordering ona a a a I wona ™t repeat the rest. Others have contemplated approaching the authorities, hence this letter to seek advices. During an ABNLP practitioner course which covered Time line therapy and Hypnoses the ABNLP NLP trainer of this course was witnessed spending evenings with a female client attending the course, whether or not any sexual activity took place I have no idea, although accusation has been made. What has become apparent is the female client of the said course now lives and shares the said trainera ™s bed, within a week of the course terminating. My question is whether or not this is a direct breach of Para codes and professional ethics of the ABH or/ and any governing body of hypnotherapy. Would we be correct in assuming that any client of an NLP course which includes TLT and hypnosis are under the influence of the trainer, money has been exchanged and therapy is taking place albeit in a teaching environment? A level of Alpha state is being experienced and therefore hypnosis is taking place with a client on a therapist bases level. The NLP trainer in question is also a trainer of time line therapy and a trainer of Hypnosis a member of both the ABNLP and ABH, all clients of the course where passed and certified NLP practitioners of NLP TLT and hypnosis under the ABNLP and ABH. Whether or not codes of professional ethics where discussed during the course I have no idea, I wager had they been I would not be writing to your good selves asking if this constitutes and breach of ethics and codes of practise within the Hypnotherapy community. I fully understand if you wish to have nothing to do with this situation and as stated your advice will be treated with the utmost confidence, I would only ask for some clarity before deciding if any further action should be taken whether by I or a more influential organisation. This whole episode troubles me and the body of people I represent, the consequences could be far reaching within the world of therapy. Again please excuse my forwardness I thought it a good idea to ask a professional body with years of experience and a complete independent, before either approaching the authorities or a governing body who are prepared to take the appropriate action.
