Connor Development Services Ltd.
Connor Development Services Ltd. of Victoria, B.C., was founded in Ottawa in 1968. During the last 30 years, it has completed over 300 projects in public participation in planning and decision-making, mostly in Canada, some in the U.S. and since 1996 in the Philippines, Costa Rica, Chile, Panama, Australia and Europe. Its principal, Desmond M. Connor, is an applied sociologist-anthropologist (Ph.D., Cornell University, 1963) with an international practice which includes social impact assessment and management. Only about half of environmental issues can be resolved by science and technology alone. The other half involve the public"s ignorance, concerns, fears and even paranoia. To deal with these effectively requires a systematic program to understand these people, provide them with relevant information in terms that make sense to them, invite their suggestions to resolve their concerns and modify the proponent"s initial proposal so it is acceptable to most of those it affects.
During the last 30 years, I have developed and demonstrated a social technology which does that and present it in several workshops and an Internet Tutorial.
