Dr. David M. Anderson is the world s leading expert on build-to-order and mass customization of manufactured products, with two books on the subject. He also "wrote the book" on Design for Manufacturability. Since 1989, he has been presenting public and in-house seminars and consulting on implementing Build-to-
Order, Mass Customization, and Design for Manufacturability.
He just wrote, "Build-to-Order & Mass Customization; The Ultimate Supply Chain Management & Lean Manufacturing Strategy for Low-Cost On-Demand Production without Forecast or Inventory" (2002, CIM Press, 805-924-0200).
He has taught Spontaneous Build-to-Order for the Association of Manufacturing Excellence and Profiting from Lean
Manufacturing for APICS. Since 1989, he has facilitated the Suzaki/SME video program, Techniques for Continuous Improvement, on eliminating waste, reducing lead times, implementing flow, improving productivity, and reducing setup, batch size,
and inventory.
He also wrote "Design for Manufacturability" (2001, CIM Press) and "Agile Product Development for Mass Customization" (1997, McGraw-Hill). Dr. Anderson was appointed guest editor for the Mass Customization issue
of the Agility Forum s journal, Agility & Global Competition (Spring 1998).
Dr. Anderson has over 28 years of industrial experience and has trained many leading companies including several divisions
of Hewlett-Packard, Emerson Electric, Baxter Healthcare, United Technologies, Rohm & Haas, Hoffman/Schroff, General Mills,
Korea s LG Group, and many others.
The Institute of Management Consultants has certified Dr. Anderson as a Certified Management Consultant (CMC). He holds
professional engineering (P.E.) registrations in Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering and a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California
at Berkeley.
