What: Administrative Assistant Course
2 hours lecture, 1 hours lab, 4 - 30 minute question and answer sessions
Course Description:
The course explores the impact of virtual presence and computer-generated communications of administrative professionals. In face-to-face interactions, we rely on appearance, body language, gesture, tone of voice, and other factors to form the basis for any relationship. How does the absence of these affect communications and relationships in an office environment? How does the administrative assistant use communication to effectively support managers and staff members?
Course Objectives:
Students who take this course will:
have a better understanding of the social contexts of the professional office environment and technological techniques to complete administrative tasks effectively;
gain an overview of the impact of computer technology on human experience and human relationships;
explore the similarities and differences between face to face and computer-mediated communication and interaction;

Friendships in the professional office environment
Social networks and on-line communities
Educational applications of computers
Professional associations for administrative assistants

15 years of experience as an Administrative Assistant for nonprofit agencies, privately operated companies, publicly traded companies through temporary agencies.
