Since 1988 The Canadian Institute of Floral Design has been a leading educator within the floral industry. CIFD provides educational excellence in contemporary, progressive programs covering both design and business aspects of the floral business. The core curriculum is taught by exceptional instructors who have had years of hands on experience and who provide our graduates with the practical skills and insights needed to be a successful professional florist. The diverse curriculum attracts men and women with various aspirations: plans to become a floral designer for a retail florist or to work independently as a free-lance designer, a goal of owning and operating their own floral business, or a desire to acquire floral design skills for personal enjoyment.
Our Professional Floral Design Program offers three weeks of intensive applied instruction covering all aspects of the industry. Subjects covered include basic design techniques; handling and care of floral products and materials; fundamentals of costing, selling and design room management and an overview of the floral industry. In addition design program, we also offer a Professional Business Management Course which provides those looking to own, or manage floral shops/departments an opportunity to develop a business plan and strategies leading to financial success.
Specialty classes are held regularly on Tuesday evenings. These workshops change monthly and cover seasonal design and instruction Designing with Spring Flowers; Wedding and Christmas Designs; High Style Contemporary Design and Ikebana.

The "Professional Floral Design Program" prepares you for a career in the floral industry. Many graduates have opened retail stores and wholesale floral outlets. PROPER CARE AND HANDLING OF FRESH CUT FLOWERS
Processing fresh cut flowers, Merchandising, Flower & Plant Identification, The availability of flowers and plants in the Canadian Marketplace.
WEDDING ETIQUETTE
Wedding order procedures, Wiring & Taping techniques, Preparing a Brides Bouquet, Bridesmaids, Maid of Honors, Flower girls, Set up flowers for the Ceremony and Reception, Corsages and Boutonnieres.
CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS AND TECHNIQUES ARE EMPHASIZED.

WHOLESALE EXCURSION
Our program includes an exciting and informative field trip. We will visit the flower auction and many other wholesale florists. You will see a large selection of fresh, silk, and dried flowers. Orchids and tropical plants and floral supplies, gift baskets, Christmas and more.
