Essex Alexander School
The Essex Alexander School (Established 1988) offers a three year training course, approved by the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique(STAT).
Being a small course of not more than 15 students, we are able to monitor individual progress closely, yet give students space to grow.
The structure of the syllabus is to follow F. M.Alexander's discoveries through a sequential pattern so that the students can build on a firm foundation that will stand them in good stead for later work. Students are encouraged to learn slowly, to practise 'Inhibtion', to have patience with their progress, and to refrain from putting 'hands on' others too soon.
A strong emphasis is therefore placed on a well thought out 'means whereby' approach to all aspects of the course, constantly helping students to heighten their sense of awareness, to use their eyes, to become more observant and to 'think on their feet'.
As students have preferred ways of learning, the Essex Alexander School endeavour to meet their needs by covering the main Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic approaches, as well as question and answer.
Students are encouraged to question throughout their training, as this helps to eliminate misunderstanding and confusion. Because the atmosphere created is friendly and supportive, no one is fearful or apprehensive about questioning.
Essex Alexander School is based in Ilford, London, United Kingdom
