I am a linguist with over 25 years teaching ESL and business writing as well as an editor/ writer. I offer courses and seminars to professionals in Business Writing, How to Edit your Text and TOEFL Preparation in Carleton Place on Canada. I developed 5 Business Writing or TOEFL Prep texts that I give to each participant as a class text and reference guide.
My clients are usually professionals whose second language is English. I want them not only to be able to write and speak English with ease, but also to be able to edit their own texts.

The English Language Consultant offers highly intensive QUALITY BUSINESS WRITING SEMINARS geared to the serious professional who wants to move ahead in their career, go to university, find employment, improve their work performance in an English environment or write a book or a thesis. This seminar gives them a brushing up of their writing ability (ESL or English first language). The ELC s goal is to enable participants to develop auto-correction or self-editing techniques. There are actually 7 levels of editing, from proofreading, copywriting, and substantive involving voice, style, tone, content, accuracy and chronological order of a text. If they can master at least two levels, it will save them time and effort later.
Participants receive the 250 page ELC Quality Manual or reference guide, covers a rapid review of advanced English grammar, style, tone, redundancy, wordiness, words confused and misused as well as the layout of various types of letters and reports. The overall aim is to enable participants to become more competent in writing all business documents. The course teaches the group how changing a word or phrase can alter the meaning, tone and style of a document.
The ELC s Business Writing seminars can also be tailored to a certain company or group . Using the ELC s linguistic questionnaire, the context and terminology of a firm may be added into the seminar format.
Classes and seminars take many different formats depending on the participants. One can take them as once a week over 13 weeks (if one lives in the area), or 10 days over two weeks etc. Courses are small groups of 10 in a warm dynamic environment The ELC is available to come to your company for the duration of the seminar.
