The Personal Safety Training Group is based in Seattle, WA, USA
Our training focuses on avoidance of crime and crime prevention and is based on situational awareness. Situational awareness is a state of mind in which you are relaxed and observant of your surroundings and also have a plan as to who or what could be of help to you should a threatening situation begin to develop.
Almost all crime involves planning whether a spontaneous purse snatching to a sophisticated bank heist.
If we gain some knowledge of crime as a process and better understand the victim selection process, we have a better chance of recognizing pre crime indicators and avoiding the situation.
During our classes we run a lot of "what if" scenarios and then "war game" the best solutions. This interaction allows learners to develop their decision making skills and also allows them to commit key skills and strategies to memory. This is critical for if a dangerous situation were to develop there is often no time to think and one must default to learned skills reflexively (Muscle memory)
Role playing during training helps with this aspect of learning.
We constantly encourage students to "think outside the box" and challenge them with increasingly complex scenarios to help them broaden their response options.
We also reinforce the importance of always honoring instincts and not deeming them irrational or silly.
