The New Horizons Institute
INTRODUCTION:
The New Horizons Institute Of Technology, a registered society registered with the Registrar Of Societies, Government of West Bengal, started operations in 2007, was born out of an idea that germinated in the period between 2004 and 2005. A group of educated, young and sincere professionals came together and created Durgapur Ispat Peoples Society to realize their dream of spreading affordable and good quality technological education among the eligible youth of Eastern India. The New Horizons Institute Of Technology is the first step towards the realization of that dream. But N. H. I. T was not formed overnight. Many surveys were undertaken and people from different professions and from different walks of life were consulted. Several engineering colleges and industrial houses were also visited. A lot of information was gleaned from this mammoth exercise. It was learnt that Durgapur had really turned into an important educational hub of Eastern India. This city alone accounted for three colleges offering degrees in various branches of engineering, one ITI level engineering college, 20 Management Institutions (mostly offering degrees / diplomas in Hotel Management) in addition to other general degree colleges run by the government. Only an engineering college offering Diplomas in different branches of engineering was missing from this list. This led to the birth of The New Horizons Institute Of Technology.
It is indeed a great pleasure for us that our Institute has successfully completed two years of its journey in academic programme of Diploma Engineering Course. The first batch of our students will be completing their three years regular diploma programme in June / July 2010.
Meantime during this period our Institute has shown excellent progress in academic and professional activities with entire satisfaction of West Bengal State Council Of Technical Education, affiliating body and All India Council of Technical Education, the approving body.
The infrastructure of our college is very good. We have spacious classrooms, laboratories and workshops equipped with latest instruments and machines. We have large number of senior experienced faculties including capable technical assistants and supporting staffs who are not only imparting high standard of technical education but they are also very friendly with the students and are extending their cooperation to the students not only in academic field but also help them in their personal problems if any.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE :
Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Hon ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, laid the foundation stone of New Horizons Institute of Technology on 7th March 2007.
Our sole aim is the benefit and improvement of our students. And this is something upon which we shall not compromise under any circumstances. We have tried our level best to recruit only those teachers who have immense industrial and academic experience. Renowned professors and lecturers have already become a part of the NHIT family.
NHIT : A RAGGING FREE COLLEGE
New Horizons Institute Of Technology is proud to declare itself as the first Ragging Free college of India It is a pleasure and indeed a rare honour to announce that the students our 2007-08 batch had themselves refrained from indulging in any kind of ragging. In fact they have gone so far as to take a solemn anti ragging oath. We are very happy that our senior students have taken it upon themselves to maintain discipline and prevent any untoward incident that might bring disrepute to NHIT and the members of the NHIT family.
TRAINING & PLACEMENT
We have a professionally managed Training and Placement cell headed by the experts of the industry. We have already arranged vocational training at different public and private industries for all the second year students. Our students are also going for regular Industrial visits and seminars. Negotiations are already going on with different organizations for campus interview and placement of our candidates
