OCS Training Institute, based in Houston, TX, offers instructor-led courses in electrical equipment for hazardous areas. These courses are based in global and national standards, and can greatly increase the safety of facilities and organizations by providing the proper knowledge and skills for safely installing, maintaining, and inspecting electrical equipment installed in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.
We also offer courses in hydraulics, OSHA-safety (under affiliation with an OSHA Regional Training Center), and are developing other courses in electrical safety and electrical skills.

OCS Group is based in Houston, TX, USA
OCS Training Institute was formed by our parent company, Offshore Commissioning Solutions, to address shortages in critical skills within the oil & gas industry as well as other industries. Our initial focus has been on Hazardous Area (Location) management, helping companies and their employees learn how to operate areas with potentially explosive atmospheres safely and within relevant standards. OCS Training Institute is the ONLY training organization in the USA to be certified to conduct Compex, which is the standard for hazardous area training in the UK, Europe, and other parts of the world, and is based on global IEC standards. We have also developed similar courses based on American standards.
OCS Training Institute is developing further courses in hydraulics, electrical standards & practices, and failure analysis. We are now affiliated with the University of Texas at Arlington, which is a Region VI OSHA Training Center, and can now offer OSHA-certified courses. We are poised to receive accreditation by the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and the American Petroleum Institute (API).
OCS Training Institute will open a brand new, state-of-the-art training center in Houston, Tx in mid-October. This new facility will offer a wide range of capabilities, including the ability to offer large room facilities, along with a large area for "hands on" training.

Dust Hazardous Area Installation and Inspection Course
: The course is intended to impart an awareness of the industrial standards relating to the construction, proper installation, and inspection of electrical/ instrument equipment which may be exposed to potentially flammable or explosive dust atmospheres. The first day of the course looks at electrical/ instrument equipment, which may be exposed to a combustible dust. The second day provides assessments, which may result in the award of competency certificate.
Hazardous Area Electrical Training

: This Hazardous Area Electrical Training course is specifically designed for electrical and instrumentation craft persons who work in areas or facilities which have potentially explosive atmospheres within offshore and onshore industrial situations. This is a 4-day, instructor-led course on the proper selection, installation, and maintenance of electrical equipment designed for use in such areas. This course is intended for personnel who need or desire to learn, refresh and/ or update their knowledge and skills in this area.
The ATEX Directives
: For staff to have an understanding of hazardous area terminology and techniques and the implications of the ATEX Directives. ATEX is a European directive and has no real place in the USA unless staff would like to understand the markings on equipment that you sometimes see in the US. ATEX has been accepted as a RP (Recommended Practice) in the Middle East and other areas of The World.
